Scientific Agenda
The 12th RCMI International Symposium on Health Disparities will feature lectures by individual who have made several contributions to improving healthcare access and to empower vulnerable populations and marginalized communities.
Scientific sessions will consist of lecture and oral poster presentations on the environmental, cultural, socioeconomic, biobehavioral, and genetic bases of health disparities in alternative medicine, biomedical informatics, cancer, cardiovascular disease, environmental toxicology, HIV and AIDS, infectious disease (Non-HIV/AIDS), neurologic and neuropsychiatric disorders, reproductive health, obesity and metabolic syndrome, and oral disease-systematic disease.
Also workshops offerings will include grantsmanship, mentoring, and career development. These workshops have been designed to provide attendees with scientific- and career-enhancing skills.
At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- integrate scientific discovery and health policy objectives that contribute to measurable and sustained improvements in health equity among the populations carrying the burden of health disparities;
- interpret a fundamental understanding of health disparities; communicating and describing how the gap between health equity and disparity can be bridged using new innovative approaches; and
- assess the impact of social determinants on health disparities as well as recognize the potential limitations of scientific discovery in the elimination of health disparities.
